Title: Writing about Writing in Canada: First-Year Writing at the University of Toronto Mississauga
Overview
This presentation provides an overview of Writing about Writing at the University of Toronto Mississauga and its place in Canadian writing studies. We will focus on ISP100, the university’s first-year writing course that founded in 2020. We will begin with the course’s shared design and curriculum development over the past six years. Each presenter will then show how that design is enacted differently across the sections we teach, tracing how our backgrounds and teaching philosophies shape our approaches. We conclude with our study of the course’s impact on learners based on recent studies completed as part of our curriculum assessment.
